Crochet Shell Stitch Quick Step Tutorial
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Chain 24
To begin, you’ll want to chain an even number to your desired length. In this tutorial, we’ve chained 24.

Step 2: Half Shell Stitch
A half shell stitch is simply a half double crochet. You can learn how to do that here. When you understand how, you’re going to want to stitch from the third chain nearest your crochet hook.

Your half shell stitch should look something like this:

Step 3: Count 3 Chains, Slip Stitch
Move 3 chains down from where you were working in Step 2 and start by sliding your hook through that chain. To learn how to slip stitch, you can check out this tutorial!

Step 4: Count 3 Chains, Double Crochet (5x)
Moving three notches down your chain from where you left off in Step 3, start by sliding your hook through the chain. You can learn how to double crochet using this tutorial. You don’t have to double crochet 5 times if you feel less would be satisfactory. We find the magic number to be between 5 and 7 double crochets.

Step 5: Count 3 Chains, Slip Stitch (Again)
Again, start working 3 chains beyond where you were in Step 4. Slip stitch once and there you go! It’s your first full Crochet Shell Stitch.
