Similar to a regular puff stitch, this mini puff stitch crochet tutorial is a great place to start for beginners to crochet. The difference of this mini puff stitch is the fact that you only have to go into the stitch twice rather than the many times you have to repeat on a normal puff stitch crochet.

Let’s get started. . .
Step 1: Make Your Chain
In this crochet puff stitch tutorial, your chain can be made to your pattern’s desired length, just make sure you chain an even number of bumps.
Step 2: Start the Puff Stitch Crochet
Here, we will skip the first chain closest to the crochet hook and yarn over before pushing your hook through the second chain. Repeat this process again. It should result in you having 5 loops on your hook like so:
Once you’ve done that, yarn over again and pull the yarn through four of the first five loops on the hook.
As you can see, it should leave you with two loops around your hook. Finally, then, yarn over and pull the yarn through those two loops.
Step 3: Repeat the Process Down the Chain
Now that you know the steps, you can repeat the process — each time, advancing the process one chain away from the hook. So, for the next step, do the same process through the third chain from the hook. Then, the fourth. Then, fifth. And so on. . . Until you reach the end of your chain.
Remember, the purpose of this mini puff stitch is to be less bulky than the traditional one. Once you reach the end of the first puff stitch row, it should look something like this:
Remember to chain one at the end of your row so you have something to work off of for your next row.
Step 4: Single Crochet
One rule you must follow is to never work from your previous puff stitch row. In order to combat that, you must add a single crochet row in-between each puff stitch row. For instructions on the single crochet, check this out.
Step 5: Repeat the above steps
From here, simply repeat steps #1-4 until you’ve reached your desired project’s length and pattern.
You’ve Completed Your Mini Puff Stitch Crochet!
